SARS SARS(Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) Pathology The first sign of SARS is a sudden high fever (temperature greater than 100.4°F). Additional symptoms will include headache, on the whole feeling of uneasiness, and body pains. Some also have meek respiratory symptoms at the beginning. Diarrhea occurs is about 10 percent to 20 percent of patients. A waterless cough will develop in most patients after 2 to 7 days. Also, shortness of breath, difficulty in breathing, hypoxia or respiratory distress may arise with some patients. It is common for some patients to acquire pneumonia. The consequences of having SARS not only makes life horrible, it is possibly deadly. Transmission People used to think that the main way that SARS seemed to multiply is by close person-to-person contact, through sneezing or coughing, carried by tiny aerosolized droplets.
