SAN FERMINES


“San Fermines” is a huge party in honour of the French Bishop, “San Saturnino” or “Saint Saturnine” (in the English language) that came to Pamplona to spread the word of God. In addition, he also became Ferminus´ mentor.
The story of “San Fermines” is surrounded by religion, legend and the fiery Basque spirit. This celebration has never been like it is today.
The “San Fermines” today consists of many different types of celebrations. The most famous traditional one is the “The Running of the Bulls”, also called “The Corrida” in Spanish.
Many years ago, the basic idea was to get the bulls into the bull rings from whatever kind of corral or enclosure they are kept. Nowadays, it consists of leading the bulls by running in front of them. However, that eventually happened when it became more and more popular.
