Stereotypes are Hurtful
Race is a very controversial issue in the United States. If everyone is supposed to be seen as ‘equal’, why is there such a notice of the color of skin? Consequently, because of noticing the color of people’s skin, this country cannot see how each race should be equal. Therefore, society has invented stereotypes, almost in the form of gossip, which has created a very large divider between races. “Dinner Guest: Me” by: Langston Hughes, “What It’s Like to Be a Black Girl (for Those of You Who Aren’t)” by: Patricia Smith, and “Mexicans Begin Jogging” by: Gary Soto, are three poems that have some type of hurtful stereotype within them. Stereotypes are hurtful, whether meant to be or not, they are.
Many people believe each race has certain stereotypes against others, which is completely true. People are brought up to believe certain things and as they age these stereotypes are manipulated but never do they disappear. In Hugh...
