Minna calls Lola on the telephone in a hysterical state. He explains to Lola that he lost 100,000 marks on a train that belonged to his boss. The money was obtained by a drug sale and Minna’s boss was the supplier. The movie, Run, Lola Run, is a unique film in which the main character, Lola, finds that she has to obtain 100,000 marks within twenty minutes in order to save her boyfriend’s life. However, the story is told three times and in three different ways. Thus, the film plays out like a video game. Lola gets three tries to see how high she can score.
During the first iteration of the film, Lola runs past various characters on the street on the way to the bank. Her father is the president of the bank and she hopes to get 100,000 marks from him. While at the bank, her father informs her that he is having an affair with a lady at the office, is leaving Lola and the family, and that he thinks Lola is worthless.
