Rudolf Hoess and The Nuremberg Trials: A Primary Document Analysis

The primary document I chose to examine is the written affidavit of Rudolf Hoess at the War Crimes Trials at Nuremberg, Germany in 1946. The testimony of this particular person is crucial for several reasons. Clearly, the document itself is an account of when and how the genocide took place, and who was involved in orchestrating it. However, upon further examination, it is evident that the document is more that just an explanation of events. The testimony of Rudolf Hoess ultimately provides us with insight into the significance and historical impact of the Nuremberg trials. By examining the document, and using additional sources, one can observe the importance of Hoess’ testimony in the context of the Nuremberg trials, and learn about the importance of the trial itself.
