Ruben "Hurricane" Carter “The Hurricane” The movie “The Hurricane” is a thought provoking account of a remarkable life not soon to be forgotten. The movie takes place in Paterson, New Jersey during the 1960’s. During this time, there was a high degree of racial intolerance. Black people were thought to be racially inferior and were treated unequally. Human rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., described their dreams for equality and unity in America. Admist all this was a man named Rubin Carter. He was to learn how racial prejudice would imprison his life. Rubin “Hurricane” Carter embodies the characteristics of a man who transcended his awful environment and looked within himself for the strength and courage to overcome. Carter was a prize fighter. His furious fighting record earned him the professional name “Hurricane.” On May 26, 1967 the career of Rubin “Hurricane” Carter came to a shuddering end.
