The period of time between the Spanish-American War and World War I is known as the Progressive Era. It was a period marked by idealism, reform, and significant economic growth. Progressivism was a movement designed to correct the abuses that reformers felt had crept into American society and government, as a result of industrialization and urbanization. President Theodore Roosevelt is known as the most important Progressive politician because of his many social and economic accomplishments. He grouped all his accomplishments under “The Square Deal.”
As the first president with progressive views, Roosevelt enacted the first regulatory laws and prosecuted big businesses that had been violating them and others for years. “His attack on the trusts was a case in a point.
