Rome

I. Summary

The Roman Empire was one of the largest in world history. A common saying "All Roads Lead to Rome" alludes to this central hub of technology, literature, and architecture. Rome became a great empire for many reasons: great rulers, great armies, a suitable location, and notable achievements from visionary builders. The engineers of the Roman age created an amazing network of roads, built strong arched bridges, harnessed water power using aqueducts and created public baths complete with gardens and restaurants that would rival some water parks of today.

The Romans built roads, aqueducts, and bridges so skillfully that some are still in use 2,000 years after construction. Buildings based on Roman architecture stand today throughout the world.
