Tonight is a rough night. You could cut the tension on the floor with a butter knife. Our floor is short staffed and there are not enough doctors and nurses to take care of all the patients. The power has gone out and we are not able to use all of the necessary equipment needed to take care of the patients properly. I am scheduled to work as a volunteer tonight on Two North labor and delivery. As I sit there helplessly wondering what I can do or how I can help I reflect on how I became a volunteer. I was attending a catholic high school at the time and part of the graduation requirement was to complete forty hours of service by the time you graduated. At the beginning of my junior year of high school I decided it would be a good time for me to get moving on my service hour requirement.
