Role of women and children in war (Australia)

Compare and contrast the role of women and children in World War 1 and World War 2. To what extent did their role and contribution to the war effort change in World War 1 in contrast to World War 2?

The role of children in World War 1 did not change much compared to the Second World War. However, the role and contribution of women in a few areas did change dramatically from World War 1 to World War 2.

Children had pressure from the government, patriotic societies, their schools, parents, and each other to contribute to the war effort. In both of the World Wars, many boys lied about how old they were to go and fight in the war, even though they could have had training in cadet corps to assist their entry into the forces. In 1910, a Defense Act that made it mandatory that all boys aged from 12 upwards would do military training. At the age of fourteen, most boys were at work so it meant that they had to give up their free time, which they resented. In World War 1, the boy...
