What is the role and importance of the character Joe Gargery in the novel ‘Great Expectations’?

In this essay I am going to be assessing the role and importance of the character Joe Gargery. I am going to be doing this by looking at the way he behaves and the way he communicates with the other characters in the story. I am also going to be looking at what other characters say about Joe’s behaviour and what his personality is like.
