Robin Hood: Fact or Legend?



Throughout history many stories have been passed down through the generation to be known to later generation as a legend or myth. Myth is defined as a story, handed down from the past, which lacks accurate historical evidence but has been, and may still be properly accepted as being true. One of those legends or myths passed down to us from generation to generation is the legend of Robin Hood, the so called “Prince of Thieves“. According to the World Book Encyclopedia “Robin Hood was a legendary English outlaw who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. Robin bravely fought the sheriff of Nottingham, a corrupt official who persecute the poor. He and a band of merry men who lived in the Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire fought those who stole from the poor.” Was Robin Hood real or was he the subject to just a tale of ballads and poems to entertain those who listened?
