Roberto Clemente Walker

Roberto Clemente Walker, born in Barrio San Anton Carolina, Puerto Rico on August 18, 1934. November 14, 1964, he was wedded to Vera Cristina Zabala in Carolina, Puerto Rico. She gave birth to three children, all sons: Roberto Jr., Luis Roberto and Roberto Enrique. At the age of six, five and two, on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 1972, a plane was taking medical, food and clothing supplies to Nicaragua after an earthquake hit. His family told and pleaded him not to go but he wanted to make sure this shipment made it cause the last didn’t. Poor weather and an unstable cargo plane caused it to almost immediately crash after the take off in 30 feet of ocean depth in the Caribbean Sea. As it approached Puerto Rico’s coast, the plane went down. Clemente’s body was never recovered. A few months after clement joined the group of elite players that have 3,000 hits, he was gone.
