Rise of Totalitarian Governments

In America and Great Britain, the Great Depression brought about change and reform to their democratic governments. However, the depression in Germany and Italy caused democracy to be thrown out altogether. Fascism, a political movement that favored the ideas of nationalism and militarism, was waiting eagerly to take its place, as it soon did under the power of Adolph Hitler and Benito Mussolini. Around the same time Joseph Stalin and General Tojo came to power of similar governments in the USSR and Japan, respectively.
