Review of No Better Place to Die

The Battle of Stone’s River throughout history has not received the recognition it deserves. In “No Better Place to Die,” Peter Cozzens tell the story of both the Union and the Confederate Armies as they fight their way through the second bloodiest battle west of the Appalachians. Mr. Cozzens fights for a place for the Battle of Stones River in our thoughts as a key battle of the Civil War. While the Battle of Gettysburg, Shiloh and Chickamauga are all forever embedded in our minds as gruesome and decisive battles fought by our warring country, the Battle of Stone’s River is a story that should not be forgotten.
While lesser battles such as Shiloh and Chancellorsville have been told and retold through numerous publications about the tale of their battlefields, Stone River has had only three publications referring to the occurrences of that bloody New Year’s battle for Tennessee.
