According to the statistics from the Chinese government, for the first semester in 1998, the supply of consuming goods in China retail market is greater than demand. The retailing total of consuming goods was up to 1,398 billion RMB, an increase by 9.1% compared with last year.
The selling prices of the main categories of agricultural and subsidary products decreased for instance the selling price of food decreased by 11.2% compared with the same period last year.
