Response to Emerson's Nature and Self Reliance

My thoughts on “Nature” extend beyond the normal response that you, Mrs. Segall, call for. I can actually relate to Ralph Waldo Emerson in the fact that he is alone, but not solitary. I see that this being alone and not solitary is truly a great state of mind. Emerson spent two years of his life alone in nature. Being solitary in my mind doesn’t strike me as being by yourself, it means more than that to me. I think solitary means completely by yourself to the point where you don’t like it.
