Babylonian Captivity: 1309-1377 Period at which Popes live in Avignon,

Leads to Great Schism: One pope in Rome, one pope in Avignon, and third pope elected to put out other two but other two wouldn’t resign. 3 Councils created who tried to get Popes to resign but they wanted the power in turn. Result: all three popes resign and a new pope is elected to reside in Rome.
