Remember the lost

Nov. 3, 2003 Memorial Service Homily

We gather together this afternoon to remember the loved ones that we have had to say goodbye to in the last year. God in his sovereignty saw fit to take many of our friends and relatives from us in the recent months passed. We have been saddened and perhaps angered by the loss of these relationships. Each of us has entered into grieving and are wondering when life will return to normal. For most of us, life will never be normal again, at least not normal as life was before our loss. Husbands and wives have lost spouses. Children have lost parents. Brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends have lost someone close. Normal will be different from now on and it may not be accomplished for awhile. Grieving can be a slow, painful, ...
