Religious Descrimination Scenario

Introduction

Abdul Rahim is an electronics engineer working for BFE Electric Company in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has always had to deal with a substantial amount of what he considers to be discrimination because he and his family are of Pakistani descent and are practicioners of the Muslim faith. Although Abdul is a third-generation United States citizen, he has always felt that he was an outsider, especially in the work environment. The tragic events of September 11, 2001 has only escalated what he feels are personal attacks on his religion. The issue that has taxed his resolve is a group in the Research and Development department. At the last two departmental meetings, he noticed that the word “raghead” was used in one R&D e-mail to use as a shortcut to his e-mail address. In another instance, he overheard R&D scientists referring to him as the “shoe-bomber” when describing his physical features and made jokes about his Mosque being destroyed by an electrical fire.
