Relationship between covenants and kingdom in the Old Testament

Man is made to have fellowship with God and enjoy the full provisions given by God to man. However, Man’s sin has resulted in separation and eventual estrangement in man’s understanding of God’s original purpose for him.

The Covenants therefore play a significant part in restating and renewing God’s relationship with man. The covenants are God’s way in bringing man back to Him and the reestablishment of His kingdom.

The Abrahamic Covenant identifies God’s original purpose for man: to have fellowship with Him, as well as to have dominion over all creatures. It embraces God’s grace and decision to redeem His fallen people. It states God’s promise of salvation regardless of what might happen. It also structures a higher relationship that includes being called the people of God and a higher calling as children of God who will inherit His Kingdom.

Having reinstated man’s role and purpose, the Mosaic Covenant defines the quality and expectations of such a calling. ...
