Rehabilitation: The Basis for Reforming Prisons

Rehabilitation is an important part of prison reform, which is an attempt to reduce high crime rates and recidivism. There are many forms of treatment that can help reform criminals and protect the safety of United States citizens. All criminals should be forced to go through some form of treatment so they are prepared to reenter society without committing crimes.

Have you ever wondered what we as citizens can do to make the United States’ prison system more successful in keeping criminals from committing more crimes or repeating the same crime? In many cases prisons are creating problems or making problems worse for prison inmates. The courts have tried to reform criminals by locking them up in jails, but it has showed little success. Courts try to punish criminals by putting them in prison for committing unlawful acts, but the punishment also needs to make criminals realize what they have done is wrong and why it is wrong.
