rebellions of 1837

Although there were many similar factors which led to the rebellions of Upper Canada and Lower Canada, there were many uniquely different factors which gave rise to the rebellions as well. Both colonies encountered a great deal of problems right from the establishment of the Constitution Act of 1791 and the problems continually got worse until they had nothing else to do in regards to standing up for their rights and freedoms but to rebel against the government. The main problems were generated with the members of the Compacts and the fact that they used their positions to formulate government policies for their own benefit while completely being ignorant of the wants and need pertaining to the rest of the nation. Three factors which lead to the rebellions of Upper and Lower Canada are the domination of the Anglican Church which pertained to both Upper and Lower Canada, the alienation of American immigrants by English Canadians which was a problem only in Upper Canada, and the racia...
