Ray Bradbury

The renowned Ray Bradbury, author of over 600 short stories and thirty books, was born in Waukegan, Illinois on August 20, 1920. Raised in Waukegan until the ripe age of six, he moved to Tucson, Arizona with his family, only to move back to Waukegan in 1927. In 1932, after his father was laid off his job as a telephone lineman, the Bradbury family again moved to Tucson and again returned to Waukegan the following year. In 1934 the Bradbury family moved to Los Angeles, California where Ray himself attended and graduated from a Los Angeles high school in 1938. This marked the end of his formal education. Bradbury earned money by selling newspapers. His free time was used at the library or in front of a typewriter and in 1942, Ray Bradbury began writing full-time.
