Puritanism and its manifestations in historical documents "Modell of Christian Charity" and "Mayflower Compact"

The term “Puritanism” denotes not only the religious sect of Congregationalists from “Old England” who wished to “purify” the Anglican Church of its supposed depravity, but also their austerity and strictness in religious conduct. So involved was this severity in social order that the Puritan community of New England had based much of its civil governance upon its very – in essence, Calvinistic Protestant – religious beliefs and endeavors at religious reformation. In the mean time, they stressed not a clear cut from the England Catholic Church, but rather to serve as a model of Christian society for the rest of the Christian world.
