Public Policy and Poverty


Poverty is defined as the condition of being in need, also known as being poor. Someone is poor when their annual income is under a certain level, which is regulated for the size of the family and changes of prices in a certain year. There are many policies and aspects of the policy that are made to help out people who are living in poverty such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, housing, and unemployment compensations. Over the past several years there have been many provisions on trying to control the issue of poverty. Some of these provisions include Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) programs which is a form of income-based public assistance, as well as The Gatreaux program which is one form of residential mobility programs.
