Providence Baseball

The prestigious baseball program that Providence College worked so hard to establish took their last regular-season swings on May 15, 1999. The reason for the sudden end to the program was because the college failed to meet Title IX requirements the previous year. The demise of this prestigious program has continued further debate surrounding Title IX. I would like to show you the reasons behind the cutting of the Providence Friars baseball team. First, I will show how the student-athlete ratio didn’t meet the standards of the NCAA. Second, I will show that baseball was not financially stable. Lastly, I will show why the college chose baseball as the sport to cut. I will also share my personal feelings about the cutting of this baseball program.
