2. Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland experienced different social, economic and political conditions. How and why did Protestant politicians disagree in their views of this situation?

At the time of the disagreements about the different conditions Protestants and Catholics faced in Northern Ireland there were three different types of Protestant political parties: Liberal Unionists, Mainstream Unionists and the D.U.P. Each had its own view about the social, economic and political discriminations in Northern Ireland.
Mainstream Unionists realised that political discrimination did exist against Catholics e.g. gerrymandering, but they believed their discriminations were justified.
