Protestant Refomation

The Reformation occurred in Europe during the sixteenth century. Political tension increased, leading to frequent wars between nations. Socially, the Reformation helped create and spread ideas. New religions developed, creating options for Europeans. During the Protestant Reformation political, social, and religious changes took place in European life and society
Conflict developed during the period known as the Protestant Reformation. Rebellion broke out in the Netherlands. The Duke of Alba was sent to crush the revolt, and later became hated for his Council of Blood, which reigned over the Netherlands by publicly executing suspected heretics. Religious tension in France erupted into war between Huguenots and Catholics. During St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre over 20,000 Huguenots were executed because Catherine de Medici feared a Protestant coup.
