Prophet Isaiah

The word “prophet” has several different definitions. A prophet can be described as one who foretells future events. Another definition is a person gifted with more than ordinary spiritual and moral insight. For the study of biblical prophets and prophecy both these definitions are all too inadequate. Let’s attempt to form the definitions of a biblical prophet. The Hebrew word “nabi” which translates “to utter” is the first and most generally used word for prophet. The word “seer” began to be used in reference to Samuel. A prophet typically proclaims the message given to him as the “seer” beholding the vision of GOD. A prophet can then be described as a spokesman for GOD. Prophets speak divinely inspired revelations in GOD’s name and by GOD’s authority. A prophet communicates the will of GOD to men.
