Promises

This short essay is a response to the documentary, Promises, a film by Justine Shapiro, B.Z. Goldberg, and co-director Carlos Bolado. The documentary Promises, out lines the outstanding issues children from The West Bank and Jerusalem face on a daily basis.
The enculturation of these children provides an ever so small window of context, on issues such as deep-rooted hate. I think that Mahmoud, a Palestinian boy living in East Jerusalem, is perhaps the most convincing. He makes a statement early in the film, in reference to East Jerusalem, “Its not for Israel. Its for the Arabs. Its ours.” Such deep hatred can only come from years of enculturation. There is no doubt in my mind ...
