Proctor - Right Decision

John Proctor made the right decision when he chose to have himself hung. He was given the option of signing a false confession to save himself. John would not sign the document, because he felt it was morally wrong to lie to save himself, even if death is the punishment. Proctor, at first, signed the document but because of his integrity, he was unable to. Proctor made his decision based on personal beliefs on what he thought was right and is defined as a martyr because of this.
Proctor, having lived with guilt over his adultery for a long time, has a change of heart towards the end of the play. His reasons for keeping his adultery with Abigail a secret, were because he feared what people would think of him...
