Privatization, Who Can We Trust?
America has been going through a couple of major private company failures within the past 2 years. “Enron Corp. laid off 4,000 workers, or 20 percent of its work force, and sent the rest of the staff at its Houston headquarters home for the day Monday, one day after the once-mighty trader filed for protection from creditors in one of the biggest corporate bankruptcies in U.S. history.” (“Bankrupt Enron Sheds Jobs”). The bankruptcy of MCI WORLDCOM and the closing of many Gateway Computer factories and stores immediately followed this failure. With all of the failures in the very recent past, privatization of social security is something that needs to be investigated, monitored and proceeded into with caution. Before placing millions of citizens hard earned dollars in the hands of a private company, all avenues need to be explored and monitoring of the chosen management companies should be top priority.
