After reading the first piece by Dama and Bowra, my impression was that it is a chant of a hunter. A hunter who is about to go out into the wild and bring food back to his people. The part of the lyric where is calls himself the food-master makes me believe that he is the person responsible for hunting animals and feeding his people with it. I believe by asking may the different animals come and fall down, and let us find honey and onmions, that it is a spiritual chant to a high power to draw the animals near and help him to find other food during his hunt.
The second piece by Bushman I thought to be a chant describing either a certain time of the year at when the tribe gathers their harvest or it is related to a spiritual act where the people fast and wait until the young moon to eat. I took the young moon as being our new moon. I think that this is talking about the tribe always waits until the new moon of summer to harvest their crops, t...
