pride

pride is something everyone should have. 1. In the first stanza, he is saying that God should not have judged all of the things poor men have done not knowing their futures, but that he should look at their desires and how hard they have tried to achieve their goals.

2. This stanza is saying that all these men wanted their whole lifetime was to be rich, or famous, or powerful, but that in the end, there was nothing else to live for after that goal was achieved.
