Pretend You Don’t See Her

Mary Higgins Clark gives a great example of a suspense novel in Pretend You Don’t See Her. Clark does an excellent job on drawing off of everyday fears to help the reader get into the story and emotionally attach to the main character. The main characters fear of not being able to trust some people and trusting other people too much can hit home to any person that reads the novel no matter what ethnicity or current situation.
The story is set in Manhattan, New York where Lacey Farrell works as a real estate agent. Early for a meeting with one of her sellers, Lacey accidentally walks in on a hit man doing his job. Lacey was in a different room than the murder and was able to hide before the murderer caught her too. The problem is Lacey did see the murderer and he turns out to be a major hit man that was supposed to have died a couple of years back, Lacey is the only person ever to be able to identify him.
