Presentation op Petruchio in the taming of the shrew.

What do you find interesting about the ways Shakespeare presents the character Petruchio to an audience. You may refer to two different episodes in the play or range more widely.

The boastful, selfish, mercurial Petruchio is one of the most difficult character in the play “The taming of the shrew” to decipher, and our interpretation of the play changes dramatically depending on our perception of his actions. As one of the main characters of the play, it is interesting to analyse the techniques and style that Shakespeare uses to present Petruchio to an audience. Petruchio is represented as loveable rouge, engaging in slapstick humour with his servants, and also a social conscious, honest human being. The bold Petruchio arrives in Padua at the home of his “Best beloved and approved” friend Hortensio, in order to travel “am come abroad to see the world” and to seek a wealthy wife “ happily to wive and thrive as best I may”.
