Predicting the future

People have been fantasising about predicting the future for centuries, but maybe nobody has actually thought about all the consequences that it could bring. If we were able to predict the future, could we lead better lives?

One major advantage of predicting the future would be that scientists could study and attempt to discover a cure for illnesses that are to come before people suffer from them. For instance, if scientists had known about AIDS in advance, they would have been able to do research and take preventive measures before the disease spread around the world.
