postmodern cityscape as a sight of simulation and spectacle

For this assignment, I decided to take a look at the 1982 movie ‘Blade Runner’. Blade Runner is set in Los Angeles, November 2019, and tells a story in which artificially simulated humans, or ‘replicants’, not only threaten the morality of human personal identity, but also the very essence of what is ‘real’. Deckard is a Blade Runner, a policeman of the future who hunts down and terminates replicants. He wants to get out of the force, but is drawn back in when five "skin jobs", a slang term for replicants, hijack a ship back to Earth. The city that Deckard must search for his targets is a huge, bleak vision of the future. This film questions what it is to be human, and why life is so precious.

I think that it is first important to define what I mean by ‘postmodernism’, ‘simulation’ and ‘spectacle’. All three terms are important when discussing the cityscape in Blade Runner.
