Polymers and Their Use In Everyday Life

Air bags, paint, and tires; not only can all these items be found on a car, they all consist of polymers. Polymers are long chains of repeating molecules (called monomers) and are present most everywhere in our lives.
There are three main types of polymers; synthetic organic polymers, biopolymers, and inorganic polymers. An example of a synthetic organic polymer is polyvinyl chloride, or PVC. PVC is often used as plumbing pipe work, structural tubing, or if you’re Brett Ratliff, reinforcement for a Halloween costume.
