Plato: Equality

In the Republic, Plato discusses many different aspects of political life and many concerns that the public has, including different types of equality . Two of theses very important types of equality are gender equality and human equality, which have implications on political life and the way the government is constructed and operates.
One of the ways Plato reveals his view of human equality is through the “Noble Myth.” In this myth that he would like to use to classify people, he says that certain people were born with medal in their souls, from gold, silver, bronze, to iron. This gives each person a role in society based on which medal they were given. In this sense, people do not have equal rights and privileges, since only those with gold souls are allowed to rule, those with silver souls are allowed to be guardians, whereas those with bronze and iron souls are given other positions in society.
