Precis Chapter 1

o The story of Pilgrim’s Progress is a dream dreamt by John Bunyan while in Bedford Jail.
o In this dream, Bunyan sees a man, Christian, with a book in his hand and great burden upon his back.
o At the beginning, Christian (main character) is very disturbed by his great burden upon his back and believed the world would be burned up with fire, which troubled him all the more.
o Christian began to tell of troubles to his family, but they thought he was just going temporarily insane.
o Christian’s main worry was what he must do to be saved.
o While walking through the fields one day, Christian meets the Evangelist who shows concern about Christian’s inquirys.
o Christian informs Evangelist of his questions about how to be saved, and Evangelist told him to follow the light, where he would arrive at a gate and there all his questions would be answered.
