People Sculptors and Mentors In F451

A mentor is defined as a wise, loyal advisor, a teacher or coach. Mentors are
important parts of people’s lives. Each and every one of us has had at a mentor or has been a mentor. What faces come to mind when you hear that word? In the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, three faces come to Guy Montag’s mind. Throughout the novel Clarisse, Faber, and Granger teach Montag important lessons and give him hope and friendship.

Clarisse, a bubbly question filled teenager, is Montag’s first mentor. She is the one who starts picking at Montag’s brain. For example, before Clarisse vanishes into her house, the first night Montag meets her she asks him, “Are you happy”(10)? Clarisse causes Montag to question his perfect life.
