The Effects of Pedophilia on Society

“The sexual abuse of children has always been one of the least understood of all crimes” (O’Grady). In prisons some crimes are more acceptable than others. When a pedophile is sent to prison he is hated and often times ostracized to the point of having to be put into solitary confinement for their own safety. Society chooses to deny the fact that within our communities there are people who prey on innocent children. In past cases of child abuse within schools or churches, the abusers were moved to another position and the incident was kept secret from the media. “Concern for the organization over-rode any concern for the damage the abuser had done and would continue to do to children” (O’Grady).
