Parental (Ir)Responsibility

Parents have become very lax in the role of parenting within the last 10 years. As jobs have become increasingly more demanding and work weeks have extended much past the previous standard of 40 hours, childcare is being left in the hands of the school systems, and worse, television. Parents have come to rely on someone else doing the job for them, and then deny responsibility when their children do not behave appropriately. The school systems are already busy enough attempting to teach children the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic. With the added pressure of being responsible for developing the children’s proper behavior and manners, schools are unjustly overloaded and overburdened. When it comes to disciplining the students, schools can only go so far, and no matter how much teachers try, there is really no replacement for what an angry parent can get a child to do.
