Panic Rooms
Given the circumstance that intruders managed to enter your home in the wee hours of the night, where would you go and what would you do? This question lingers in the minds of all Americans, especially the ones of the wealthy and powerful. Recently, the answer has been to install a panic room, or safe room. These rooms can range in price anywhere from fifty thousand to five hundred thousand dollars and can be equipped with an infantry of cameras, pressure-resistant windows, and air-cleaning systems for protection against bacterial warfare. After Sept.11, paranoia regarding how safe our homes really are has been on the incline and therefore more money has been invested in the installation of “panic” rooms nationwide. In the blockbuster smash “Panic Room”, the safe room fails to do its purpose but as retired FBI agent Mark Llewellyn comments regarding safe rooms, “It is supposed to be just a safe place, and if it prepared properly, it is just that.” Few woul...
