According to CNN scientist’s first detected ozone depletion in Antarctica in the 1970’s. Since then scientists have set up satellite, balloon and also ground-based instruments to observe ozone depletion. Today the ozone hole is now 9 million square miles. The ozone layer protects life on earth from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays and keeps out lethal UV radiation completely, but now with a hole in the ozone layer more people are at risk of developing skin cancer.
