Overview of Systems Theory

OVERVIEW ON SYSTEMS THEORY

Theorist:
Urie Bronfenbrenner was born in Moscow Russia on April 29th 1917. He has a Ph D. in Developmental Psychology and is a Professor of Human Development and Family Studies of Psychology at Cornell University in the USA. He developed a “System Theory” in 1977 and he suggests that an individual develops within a context or ecology.
There are three main influences of this development:
Microsystems: Earliest influence- Family, Local neighbourhood, School, Religious institutions, Peer groups and Culture.
Mesosystems: Intermediate influence- Social Institutions (society)
Macrosystems: Most removed influence- Region or Global changes
