Consumers may want to be like Mike, but shoe companies want to be like Nike. That is because Nike is the world's largest shoemaker and controls more than 20% of the U.S. athletic shoe market. Nike’s principal business activity involves the design, development, and worldwide marketing of footwear, apparel, equipment, and accessory products. Nike’s major products consist of an extensive line of athletic shoes for men, women, and children for competitive and recreational use. Substantially all of Nike's footwear products are designed as athletic shoes for nearly all sports, including basketball, baseball, cheerleading, golf, volleyball, and wrestling. However, a large percentage of the shoes are purchased and worn for casual or leisure purposes.
