Overpopulation

The world¡¯s population has been booming for years. The population is now threatening to reach the stage where there are just too many people for the planet to support. It is astonishing that in 1850 the world population was only one billion, but ate the end of 1987, it was at five billion and still rising rapidly. It is only 137 years and the population has increased by five times. Our small ship has been picking up passengers at the speed far beyond its capacity. Finally, we suffer from our own deeds-----overpopulation.

Overpopulation has been disastrous to the planet. More people, more pollution. Greater population have polluted and consumed more, ruining the environment and creating or intensifying a variety of problems.

In 8000 B.C, only five million people were alive---roughly the population of today¡¯s Papua New Guinea. Overuse of the world¡¯s natural resources was hardly an issue. Now some six billion mouths must be fed and bodies clothed and housed. To meet this in...
